The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported projected IT employment growth from 2012-2022. IT industry occupations are projected to grow 17.6% by 2022 meaning IT will grow 63% more than other industries. While most occupations within the IT industry will grow nominally, the exponential growth for the IT industry is a result of five industry specialties: Information Security Analysts, Computer Systems Analysts, Software and Systems Software Developers, Computer User Support Specialists, and Web Developers.
These fast-growing IT occupations are projected to grow between 20% and 36% each, making up 70% of the projected growth for IT industry jobs. Growth in these specialties can be attributed to the need for greater web security, application development and cloud-based technology.
With all this projected growth, the future of IT is looking bright. If you’re an IT pro, it looks like now’s the time to party like it’s 1999.
