Lights. Camera. Action.
It’s time for your virtual meeting debut.
If the most on-camera experience you have is co-starring in your daughter’s homework project, don’t worry. ESP IT has some tips and tricks to help you level up your virtual meetings.
Lights
Make sure you’re in a room with good lighting, and then place a light in front of you. If you’re in a room with a window face directly towards it. In a room without a window, find a lamp to place in front of you. Keep the camera angle at eye-level or a little higher, with a professional background.
Pro tip: When you miss your beauty sleep, use the Zoom beauty filter.
Camera
Before the meeting, don’t forget to test your hardware. The quickest way to raise your blood pressure and annoy your colleagues is by troubleshooting your tech as a meeting takes place. Don’t be that guy, save yourself some time and trouble and test everything before.
Make sure to dress the part. You never know when you’re going to have an unexpected video call, and you don’t want to be caught in your Vikings pajamas. Dress for work to stay focused and productive.
Pro tip: Use your computer or phone’s internal camera instead of an external one, the graphics will be better.
Action
Call in from a quiet place and have all the materials you need on hand. During the meeting, mute your mic to mitigate background noise so your colleagues can focus. Keep your talking points and questions straightforward by writing them out on Post-It notes attached to your screen.
Pro tip: If the meeting is more casual, try out some of these fun Zoom backgrounds.
It’ll take some getting used to, but with practice, you’ll be a virtual meeting superstar in no time.
