Linux Security Engineer

We’re looking for a Linux Security Engineer for our client. You will be responsible for understanding our client’s distribution methods for the distribution, promotion, integration, and security of their products. The Engineer will work with many groups within the company to support current products and the development of new products. We’re looking for someone great at multitasking to automate, monitor, develop, build, and test several distributions at once.


  • Monitor the security of all distributions (SLES, CentOS)
  • Share best practices and security tools with customers
  • Advise Engineering on System configurations and best practices
  • Develop and Build installation media
  • Package Linux updates to deploy to sites
  • Troubleshoot issues found in the software and the base Linux version
  • Identify and communicate bugs and feature requests with the Linux distributions
  • Participate in the Distribution Beta program to identify relevant changes and bugs that will affect our products
  • Establish best practices for the integration of new kernels
  • Coordination with project managers to determine future Linux requirements
  • Assist junior engineers with automation, building and testing of new SuSE drops
  • Triage Linux issues and follow through for a timely resolution of defects, or workarounds
  • Document Linux site procedures and policy
  • Build and maintain relationships with your SuSE counterpart

  • Understanding of system level security (CVEs, NIST, Configuration Best Practices)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Ability to communicate and interface between a diverse set of engineers

Preferred Skills:

  • Jenkins CI experience
  • Python
  • System Testing (Robot Framework or other test Frameworks)
  • Virtual Machine experience (Vagrant, VirtualBox)
  • Security Monitoring (Openscap, Nessus)
  • Understanding of program level security
  • Ansible and Ansible Plays
