Our history with Darin Lynch goes way back. He was once a group manager at ESP Software Services, a division of ESP IT sold to Cotelligent in 1996. Darin started Irish Titan, a company specializing in designing and developing e-commerce platforms, websites, and digital strategy in 2004. Darin and Bob Hildreth (CEO of ESP IT) reconnected several years ago and now talk often to discuss ideas and challenges they face as leaders of fast-growing entrepreneurial technology companies.

In many ways, the challenges of a Millennial workforce have already been addressed. The internet has produced extensive myth-busting content about the Millennial generation, as well as tips to help bridge the gap between Millennials and older generations. Just like George would talk to his boss Mr. Spacely, we now have Skype Interviews and video meetings. Although video interviews are not quite as second nature as they were in the Jetsons’ home, you can follow these tips for video interviewing like a pro.

The Jetson’s house is always illuminated thanks to their maintenance man, Henry. To begin preparing for your interview, look at the lighting in your space. You want to make sure you’re not a shadow to your interviewer. How can you avoid shadows? First, maximize the use of natural light by positioning yourself near a window. You can sit facing the window, or to the left or right of it to optimize that natural light. Second, turn on lights in the room and move them so that the light fills in the darker spaces. If you want to do lighting like a pro, use a softer light aimed toward your face, a backlight to add dimension to your space, and fill lights to balance the light on either side of your body.
To make a great impression, focus on the top portion of your resume. Recruiters and hiring managers are busy folk so show how great you are and make their job easier by keeping these 4 tips for the top in mind before submitting your resume.
1. Executive summary. Executive summaries can be very difficult to write; it’s not easy to summarize your career goals, winning personality, and culture fit in 1-2 sentences. But particularly for IT consultants, who may have a long list of experience, the summary is essential for helping you stand out and making it clear to those reviewing your resume where your experience lies. Be specific. Are you a developer with 8 years of experience in financial services? Include that in your summary. Make sure that this statement conveys a clear message about who you are and is tailored for the role.
